Student Council Elections

Here is a little overview on how student council elections will be held and what the roles entail. Voting will be on Monday, April 14th. 3H voting will be held Tuesday, April 15th.

Process

Student Council elections will be held Monday during class time. 3H elections will be held on Tuesday, but run in the same manner.

At the beginning of class kids will discuss with one another and let the teacher know if they want to be on student council and represent their class- not everyone has to run if they do not want to. After about 5 minutes of discussion the teacher will tell the class those that want to run. The kids will then write down on a notecard that is handed out to them the two kids that are running that they want to represent their class.

ALL kids must vote and if the ones running for student council do not vote they will not make it. You MUST vote to win. President, Vice President, and Treasurer must also vote. People who ran for office and did not win may run for student council.

Teachers will then box ALL of the notecards (or put them in a folder) and send them to Alexandra Daikon, who will tally them during school and then walk to all the classrooms and let them know who won.

TWO representatives of EACH class will be chosen. They will be invited into the group once the winners are announced, and given a time card on when they are available for a meeting.

If you are in two classes (such as morning and 3H) you may vote in each class- however- if you win student council in one class you MAY NOT run for student council in your other class. If you run for student council in one class and do not win, you are welcome to run again. Any kids that run and win for student council in one class and run again in their second (and win that one) will not be counted and the other 2 with the most votes will win. You may, however, bring in ideas and such for BOTH classes. This is to ensure that 2 *different* kids from each class are chosen.

**For Morning Class**
I will not be online until 11am SLT... at that time I will tally all the votes and make sure that they are done before school is out at 11:30am so you don't have to wait until Wednesday.

Roles of Student Council

Student council is being set up to aid student government. They will be able to bring up specific topics that need changing in each of their classes as well as giving more insight to things that the kids want changed in their school. They will be able to take some of the load off the student government since there are more of them that the students can talk to. They will also help organize different fundraisers or events, such as dances etc.

If you decide to run for student council make sure you are ready to really be a part of the school and help. This is not a popularity contest- this is for kids that really want things changed in their school.

This will also be posted on our blog: http://hkescsg.blogspot.com/

--Good luck kids!--
